Richard Van Bergen & Rootbag – “Walk On In“ – Naked / Donor – record company / in-akustik – distribution

You don’t have to travel to the U.S.A. to devote to Southern Blues live! Why not spending a holiday or weekend trip in beautiful Holland. You will be able to discover the region of  The Ijssel and The Ijssel-Sea as the northernmost delta distributary of the Rhine.wonderful landscapes, towns, gourmet-gastronomy und kick-ass music-events, festivals and scene-bands. Outstanding as blues-artists utmost worthy of mention are definitely Richard Van Bergen & Rootbag! Richard is not only a superbe guitar-slinger and daredevil as slide-guitarrero, he has the gift of a charismatic voice. On top he is an excellent song-composer and producer. By Rootbag Richard is escorted by a phenomenal, virtuoso band featuring the drum-professor Jody van Ooijen, who studied his instrument at the conservatory Utrecht and the desert rocker Roelof Klijn on bass. In 2015 Rootbag have been winning the “Dutch Blues Award” in the category “Best Blues Band“.

So here we go – A lot of plaisir by the second opus „Walk On In“!

By listening to the desert blues-rocker „Rock Me Right“ as starter you may dream by enjoying to listen to it of a road-trip to commence in the Sonora desert and to lead on the legendary Route 66 to historic towns like Albuquerque, Sante Fe, Amarillo, Tulsa till the blues-capital „The Windy City” – Chicago“ on an iconic Harley Davidson. The intro beats of the drums by Jody, the dominant dust-dry bass-plays by Roelof, the charming voice and the six.string artistry by Richard are immediately to atomize by its magic. By „That’s What You Do to Me“ as hoodoo-swamp-blues the eyes of the freaks will get flamy and verifies his international kudos as one of the best international slide-guitarists. „Can’t Keep Up“ is refined by the guest-appearance by Roel Spanjers  and his Hammond-sounds contributions. The title song „Walk On In“ is a dynamic Texas boogie-blues-rocker to electrify with a spice-up of bayou-swamp rattles. Additionally there are fervid guitar-bass- & drums-duels. An obeisance to „The Healer“ John Lee Hooker. „Middle Of The Night“ has “From Dusk Till Dawn – Vampyre-Horror-Flair“, my personal highlight of the cd. By „Snap” Richard and Rootbag are manifesting, that they are blues-allrounders; maestros of the blues with a countryesque-jazzy twang. Fans of Widespread Panic and Gov’t Mule listen as must to„Junk In The Trunk“. The funky grooves and hotblooded Hammond solos are magnificent! The short, conclusive „I’m Willin’”is enchanting as final by its soulful Gospel-Voodoo flair!
