Spin Doctors – Songs From The Road – cd – Ruf Records – ruf 1212
In 2011 the Spin Doctors really started the “Spinning Wheel” again by touring-activities and in 2013 Ruf Records published their hooky cd “If The River Was Whiskey” featuring two really new tracks and eight tracks which where their love-declaration their old days way “Back To The Blues”. As promotion for their masterwork they were making the fans hot again by some live-shows and one of them as highlight was at Harmonie in Bonn and recorded for the “Songs From The Road” series by “Maison de la Blues” Ruf Records. So here it is, play it loud and enjoy by some WHISKEY!
The cd is a great sound-diamond, but off course it is more electrifying to watch the band live by their action by your home-cinema or tv on dvd. The show started by a thunderous intro and when excellent axe-rocker Eric Schenkman, bass-monster Mark White, drum-manimal Aaron Comess and last not least the maestro of seductive chant Chris Barron started by the first riffs of “What Time Is It” there was immediately this ardor to burst into flames between band and audience. There were no feet standing still by the funkalicous grooves by “Traction Blues” as second title. Eric’s virtuoso bluesy solos were the absolute notch of the live celebration. Chris was manifesting how sportive he can be as fronter by the some feet-air-moves. After so much speedy tracks the Spindos calmed down and proved that they are really back at their beloved roots The Blues by the ballad “Off My Line”. Off course they blew the roofs of by ecstasy by commemorating their hit “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong”. By the intro Chris even spoke a little bit of German and proved by his song-canto what a charismatic, powerful shouter he still is. Rockin’ & bluesy was the party at the peak by the hookalicious title track of their lated cd jewel “If The River Was Whiskey” Mister Schenkman was to kick as again by his solos on his flying-v-axe. The live-repertoire was an excellent mix of old and new tracks, but the newie “About A train” was so much spreading the heat of the southern hospitality of the U.S. The top-hit “Two Princes” was like Thunder & Lightning again, it rocked… Chris was the wild guy backstage, haha before the band entered again for the first encore of “Scotch & Water Blues”, but it was Eric to kleptomania the show-award of him by his guitar-talkings as solo! The DocSpins can boogie too and hell yeah the kicked ass by “What My Love”. Funk-Rock till final exhaustion was the final theme by “Yo Mamas A Pajama“ concluded by a kind of a „Good Night Sleepy-End Chant“ by master Barron. But no one of the attending concert-fans was ready to sleep. They were only thirsty… The Spin Doctors – Live – Were too Hot!!!
