Samantha Fish – Wild Heart – Ruf Records – Ruf 1213

If you have a look at the cd-cover of the new cd “Wild Heart” by Samantha Fish she looks like a modern “Little Blue Riding Hood”. Oh yes the lady is quite seductive by her vocal-timbre on her new masterwork like “Offering Her Throat To The Big Bad Wolf” by daylight, but beware by the sounds she can get bluesy-country-rockin’ and will metamorphose by the light of the full moon into “Sister Wolf”, haha… She has played on tour a lot together with the Royal Southern Brotherhood and Mike Zito. Legends like Buddy Guy and Tab Benoit are always excited and pleased to jam with Samantha on stage. For “Wild At Heart” she has allured the heart of Luther Dickinson of North Mississippi Allstars, ex Black Crowes to contribute his musical versatility on guitars and different other instruments like a coffee-can-stringer and exceptional drummer Brady Blade, who was  a member in Spyboy, the longtime Emmylou Harris band. So start the cd-rotation in your player and your heartbeat will get wild!

You will immediately get hooked by the opening title “Road Runner” as hillbilly-country-blues with boisterously chant by Samantha, hot slide guitars by Luther and stompin’ drums by Brady. Hellish hot and steamy opener! “Place To Fall” next is a stunnin’ cardiodynia-ballad with melancholic vocals by her and exciting guitar-duets with Luther. Oh yes, Samantha is a finest axe-grace, too. Luther proves on “Blame It On The Moon” that he is not only an ace-guitar-slinger, but also a fervid bass-player, takin’ care of some hot grooves together with Brady. If you are in the mood for some funk- rock-blues  consecutively “Highway’s Holding Me Now” is the real deal… Samantha and Luther have a big heart for delta-country-blues which they testify on “Go Home”. Finest acoustic finger-pickin’ with a gospel-sentiment on top. SF and LD lost their souls to Charley Patton by their soulful version of “Jim Lee Blues Pt. 1”, featuring some kind of jazzy banjo-solos. Definitely one of the cd-notches. “By Turn It On” Fish, Dickinson & Brady were rockin’excessively in the studio, like a wild jam on stage.  A song for the hard-rockers.  “Show Me” continues the same style, the girls and two boys really went wild***** After so much rockin’ action Lady Fish grants a little pause for some meditativeness by “Lost Myself” , a finest roots-americana ballad. The rockin’ train accelerates to maximum steam-speed again by the title track “Wild Heart”. Battlin’ drums, hellish hot canto by Samantha, and demoniac six-string duets with Luther make it a culmination opus. Samantha and mates kick your ass by the rock’n roller “Bitch On The Run” and some finest axe-duels the Texas ’ style. Hot like chilly… Lady Fish & Misters Dickinson & Brady concluded their recording dession by “I’m In Love With You” a symbolic love-ballad for their unity in the studio. The threesome have a heart for Louisiana and Brady lives in Shreveport so the listeners are left with a peace-ballad with a swampy bayou-rhythm.
