Laurence Jones – „What’s It Gonna Be“ – cd – Ruf records – Ruf 1216

If you look by a beautiful bright evening at the sky you will be fascinated by the starry, shiny firmament. If you are by the mood then into some finest blues-rock the Brit style the hot deal is the newest cd by Laurence Jones – “What’s It Gonna be”. The congenial artist from Stratford Upon Avon” can be definitely entitled the new star of the blues-rock scene and exciting by his 3rd release. William Shakespeare was from Stratford and Laurence has definitely symbolically inherited the gift from the legend as musical songwriter, singer and as highlight as outstanding guitarist.

So “What’s Up Next”? Put the cd into your player and get into utmost happy mood and start by the  opening  title track “What’s It Gona Be”! Mister Jones is still young as being only 23 years old by age, but his voice is ever so exciting and mature. He has off course delivered his soul to modern blues-rock the Brit style, but you immediately get aware that he also loves good-ole hard-rock. Fascinating song combining heavy guitar solos with beautiful melodies and chant. “Don’t Need No Reason” is very groovy by the plays of bass-ace Roger Innis as basic. Laurence tops this by his fervid axe-riffs. The maestro is off course not only concentrating on blues from GB, but by “Evil” he takes us on a journey to the home of the devil and the rattlesnakes – Texas. His six-string extravagances are not only spicy and strutting the fast way, but the maestro pleases also by a slow and sensitive intermediary solo.  By “Touch Your Moonlight” you will definitely be teased to dance wildly or bang your head specially to the drum-beats of Miri Miettinen. LJ has also the talent of writing beautiful ballads and “Don’t Look Ballad” as highlight-song of the cd is dedicated to all lovers. A beautiful soulful duet with Sandi Thom is the top culmination. “All I Need” and “Being Alone”are titles making your day even more brighter by the good time-themes. “Good Morning Blues” is a modern bayou-blues-rock with a buckshot of funk. There is red-heat by his bottleneck  slides on his fret-board. By “Can’t Get Enough” he manifests his love to Brit-Hard-Rock by the Bad Company song. Ruf Label sister Dana Fuchs is contributing some steamy vocals by the duet-canto. “Set It Free” is very meditative, specially by the melodious string-therapies. Mister Jones and band-mates conclude the album by “Stop Moving The House” and deliver their souls to some wildest boogie-blues-rock by the jam. Your feet will be definitely in ecstasy! Hooky final tune…

Laurence Jones has created by “What’s It Gonna Be” a modern and finest  blues-rock masterwork*****. You will be absolutely delighted and make it play again and again!

Roger and Laurence as producers have taken care of a top sound-production… Thanks again to Thomas Ruf of Ruf records  for keeping “The Blues Alive” by such starry artists like Laurence Jones!
