T.S.O. – Trans-Siberian Orchestra @ European Tour – Brussels (BE) & Amsterdam (NL) – 17. & 18.01.2014

T.S.O – Trans-Siberian Orchestra have established themselves since their foundation in 1993 as a musical phenomena,  specially live. And in 2013, it was their glorious live-return after 2011 also to Belgium and the enjoyable Vorst National in Brussels.  As they tour in the U.S. with two groups, one the west-, the second the east-coast Europe was to see the main-musicians united on one stage. By so much luck you would have expected the venue to be sold-out, but Brussels and Belgium was not in the mood for some extravagance and the seatings were only completed to less than he half of the capacities.  Bad-ass-stuff…

T.S.O. started the orchestral opera-style by the ‘Time And Distance’ featuring some thunderous winterstorm-sounds. It was specially the choir, featuring the male and female lead-singers to enchant by their unification.  The mastermind and producer Paul O’Neill was not present due to songwriting activities, but this has to be manifested as advantageous by the show. The boys and their ladies were live in the caprice for heavy classic-rock and started by the Savatage cover as third song ‘This Is the Time (1990)’. It was ever so exciting to see  Jeff Scott Soto as lead-vocalist by this song. His voice was spiritual, definitely one of the greatest in Hard Rock &Metal! Brian Hicks as storyteller was introducing by his rousing narration ‘Christmas Jam’. It was time for the ex Savatage members Johnny Lee Middleton on bass, Jeff Plate on drums and on duet-lead-guitars Chris Cafferey & Al Pitrelli to kick-ass rock. For the first time the gigantic laser-show was to excite. There were no pyro-effects allowed at Vorst National, but the light-show and these were enough overwhelming and ever so creative. Also the sound was by finest style. The first shower of emotion was granted to the freaks by ‘Handful of Rain’ by the soulful, bluesy canto of Erika Jerry. Her suffrage was raisin’ storm of applause. Stunning*. “Brussels Strings” as entitled orchestra and T.S.O. were manifesting how this holy coalescence can sound ever so amazing. Devil’s daughter Asha Mevlana on fiddle was playing some hellish solos. ‘Gutter Ballet’ as metal-opera-hymn was introduced by a keyboard-solo the finest art and Vorst National was turning into a Hall Of The Mountain-King. Sava mastermind Jon Oliva was to be rendered homage by AL, it would have been so sizzling if he would have joined TSO live… The axe duels of Chris and Al were ear-blowing and wild. Nathan James was doin’ a great Job on lead-singing, but here it would have been worthy to integrate Zak Stevens as original second Sava crooner. By ‘Carmina Burana’ it was again big metal-opera time. T.S.O., choir and strings proved how creative and unique this should really sound. The absolute highlight was by the simpatico  man from Broadway Rob Evan by ‘Epiphany’.  His voice was so mutifunictional and virtuoso from powerful heavy to sensitive and full of emotions.  The Lord of the keys Vitalij Kuprij  and his Lady Mee Eun Kim were playing solos by wizardry. By ‘Requiem (The Fifth)’ T.S.O. were rendering a last time homage to their classical idol Beethoven.  Lights and lasers were eye-blowing. By ‘Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24)’ two and a half hours of live magic were over like a ride in a speed-locomotive. Ana and Chris were the main extraterrestrial soloists by it. The greatest musical show on earth was at its conclusion by phenomenal standing ovations by the fans and a bow-down of all artists. MAGNIFICENT!

T.S.O – Trans-Siberian Orchestra hailed be thy continuation of the legacy of Savatage!
