Royal Southern Brotherhood – Songs From The Road – CD & DVD – Ruf Records – Ruf 1194

Ruf Records continue their “Songs From The Road“ cd/dvd series by an absolute highlight – the feature of the gig of Royal Southern Brotherhood at the Harmonie, Bonn which was recorded for German TV – Rockpalast. CD and DVD are having the equal song-list and the sound is most excellent. The visual capture on DVD is excellent by camera capture, what is really a pity that the venue had only limited lighting-systems so that the gig is by visual experience not as shiny as in other clubs.

You can experience the Royal Southern Brotherhood the best by the special live-momentum as the band can evaluate much more into extraterrestrial awesome jam-rock and has the free-space for extended solos by every individual musician. The DVD is definitely on preferred agenda as you have the image. Devon Allman and Mike Zito were ever so fervid as brothers in guitar-arms. Cyril Neville  transmitted by his flamy percussion play the heat of the south in the summer. But really the man of the gig was Yonrico Scott, his drum-play from power- to sensitive drumming was just phenomenal by this show and is always! Besides this he was the joker in the band by his grimaces while drumming. Charlie Wooton on bass was more the quiet pole by his show, but ever so rhythmique by his play. Ever so amazing also that all 3 front-guys – Cyril, Mike & Devon were so excellent vocalists, rarely you experience that in any other band… All songs are great, but highlights can be called definitely ‘Moonlight Over The Mississippi’, ‘Left My Heart In Memphis’ and the Stones Cover ‘Gimme Shelter’ as triumphal conclusion. Watch out Cyril by it exploding by his vocal greatness and stage-show.
