Chris de Burgh @ O2 World – Hamburg – 18.04.2013

Chris de Burgh was born in Venado Tuerto , Argentinia.  He calls by pride his home being Ireland, this beautiful greenish country integrated in the United Kingdom. Home of many legendary  sagas, dragons, heroes, lakes, castles and beautiful countryside. Home is also entitled his effective output. And Germany?  Any special relationship? Oh yes, CDB  loves Germany! Not only as it is his main selling country of cd’s, hits and platinum awards. He loves to be on tour there, even spends here some holidays by caprice. So you can call the land of the Germanic tribe his home while being on the road.

Lights out in the splendid, specially by acoustics O2 World in Hamburg. Thunderous sounds and visionary flashes of lightning on the big led-screens were hailing the start of the show. When Chris was entering the stage beamed by white spotlights a storm by applause was immediately to raise.  And he and his band-mates, specially Neil Taylor on guitar were in the freak to rock extensively. Vow, what a stunning, quite heavy start. The second song ‘The Spirit of Man’ would have been ideal by the funky rhythms to danse, but the fans were remaining stuck to their seats. Anyhow the zeal was at its early peak and loud clapping was enforcing the rhythm. Chris was in most excellent sulkiness this soirée and so he was thanking and talking to his fans excessively. Even a  female admirer could acclaim the stage without him being fearless to endow him some flowers. Mister de Burgh was emotionally touched by soo much gratitude. His hit ‘Missing You’ was the first hit-ballad. Amazing, thrillingly clear as crystal voice. The real highlight of the first set was its conclusion ‘The Fields of Agincourt’ by the intensive melodies, chant and the theatrical, flamy projections. The second one started by ‘Tender Hands’and unplugged presenting the most excellent singer-songwriter skills of CDB. ‘Living On the Islands’ was a beloved song for the attending housewives. A lot of positive cardiodynia for them by singing along. Some of the ladies were caterwauling and near to collapse by emotion. The version of ‘Love and Time’ was soo emotional, specially by the most beautiful piano melodies. Naturally his hit ‘Lady In Red’ was not missing in his live-repertoire. He even was honoring Toto as one of his beloved bands by their ‘Africa’ smoothy-opus.  But finally it was time for rock again and how. The versions of his classics ‘Don’t Pay The Ferryman’ and ‘High On Emotion’ were really hard & heavy and Neil could speed up again by his guitar-solos. The people were now rising from their seats and storming to the front of the house to be near to their idol. Hot finale. Naturally CDB had to grant by the fan- enthusiasms two encores which he concluded by the soft and tender ballad ‘Go Where Your Heart Believes’ from his storytellers album “Moonfleet”. A last goodbye wave of gratefulness by heart to his fans and his most excellent musicians played some last riffs afterwards. Everybody was happy of being a witness of such a concert-top-event.

Chris De Burgh – What a great storyteller, singer-songwriter and also a rockin’ man!

Our thanks to River Concerts and Kai Winter for the accreditation.
