Y&T @ Spirit Of 66 – Verviers (BE) – 16.10.2012

The culty Spirit of 66 at Verviers had turned into an animal cage for this concert-night to be remembered. 4 savage Tigers were petting with their prey until they celebrated their final meal.

Y&T were striking their freaks from the first tune of their masterwork and song-title ‘Black Tiger’. Dave Meniketti was at his best in reference to his lead-vocals. And his guitar-solos were wild, mostly alternating with second excellent lead-guitarist John Nymann. Hot stuff! The guitar-players amongst the audience got sparkling eyes and were playing the air-axe. A stormy start. The whole group could have not started in more energized manner. ‘The third song was the song for two wild girlie-bunnies in the front, they were headbanging and whoopin’ in total ecstasy. ‘Rock & Roll Gonna Save The World’ was the sing-along chanson for the bunch. ‘Mean Streak’ was next, good-ole Dave shakin’ his hips and guitar like in old-days. The killer was on the loose. By ‘Rhythm Or Not’ the attack had begun from the rhythm-section by Mike Vanderhule twirling his sticks and specially Brad Lang on bass. You could feel by his versatile play how proud he is to replace Phil Kennemore – R.I.P., the legendary original 4 string-guy. He did hell of a job and was contributing also some hookin’ back-up-vocals. As he is good-lookin’ the bunnies were falling in trance-like-mania as they were directly in front of him. Brad had mercy with them and let them enjoy still some minutes of their lives, haha…  Mr. Meniketti was telling little anecdotes as intro for each song. He remember very well that it was in 2010 when the rocked the last time the Spirit of 66. ‘Midnight In Tokyo’, ‘Shine On’ and ’25 Hours’ were performed in outstanding way, catchy melodies and guitar-mavericks were delighting the swag. ‘Hurricane’ was tormenting the fans with sweet pain. ‘I Believe in You’ was the absolute slaying highlight of the night. That’s what hardrockers are famous for, their ballads. The guitar-melodies, whining solos and chant of Dave were sanguinary. The Spirit of 66 was an electrified mansion. Dave was playing to his complete exhaustion and headbanging even with his long blond mane. The cheers as thanks and honour were on his side.  Boisterously*. Yes, they could have played on ‘Forever’, but the regular end of the set had come. The screams naturally made the Tigers come out again for their final strike and the freaks and specially the two bunnies were yelling ‘Rescue Me’. But there was no game-warden to do so. So it was the killing pleasure to effect the live-taking bite. Precise and very effective they did it. The tigers and the vulture waiting already in thousands by numbers were bloodthirstily awaiting their meal. But hell, what was goin’ on now? As Halloween is getting closer the Zombies awoke from The Dead and passed out into the night – Midnight In Verviers.
